In a future where language and communication have come to an end, consciousness becomes as transparent as water — leaving nowhere to hide. Is emotion humanity’s final redemption, or its ultimate prison?
Language, like a symbol, connects with the bodily experience to evoke feeling. Yet how deep must that connection run before understanding turns into confinement? As human senses and emotions become increasingly virtual, reality seems to harden and stagnate. Is love cold or warm — or has it long since drifted into the virtual realm, no more than a passing illusion?
Beyond Dance Theater now presents the final phase of its three-year Contemporary Dance Theatre Development Project — The Black Spots “Beyond The Evolution”. Led by Artistic Director and Choreographer Kelvin Mak, this culminating production brings together the creative team who have evolved through all three stages across the project’s two-year journey. In a rapidly changing city, they bring together the physical power of dance and the dramatic essence of text, allowing movement to strike directly against narrative. Amidst a fragmented, collapsing world, the human and natural forces of motion guide the audience into the theatre - to confront, on stage, the essence and causality itself.
